# Arrokoth

The most distant object any spacecraft has visited: New Horizons passed it on New Year's Day 2019, four years after Pluto and 6.6 billion km from here. It is here for that. Two round lobes resting against each other, 36 km end to end, flattened and undisturbed - it was assembled gently out of a local cloud of material rather than battered together, and being too cold and too far out for anything to have happened to it since makes it the best-preserved thing anybody has seen from the era the planets formed in.
