A small stony asteroid in the inner belt, here because it was the first asteroid anybody ever photographed from close up: Galileo passed it in October 1991 and turned a point of light into a cratered, irregular object 18 km long. Every picture on this map of a rock that is not a smooth ball descends from that one.
