# Uranus

*In the Solar System*

An ice giant of water, methane and ammonia over a rocky core, four times the Earth's width, and the pale green-blue is methane absorbing the red out of the sunlight. It is tipped on its side - its axis lies almost in the plane of its orbit - so each pole spends forty-two years in daylight and forty-two in darkness. One spacecraft has been there, Voyager 2, for six hours in 1986.
