OrbitalMap a live chronicle of orbit

Spacecraft

Euclid

Surveying a third of the sky to build a three-dimensional map of how galaxies are distributed and how that distribution has changed over ten billion years. The shape of it is the evidence: dark matter and dark energy make up 95% of the universe and are known only by what they do to everything else.

Path

The same kind of loop about L2 that JWST is on, which is why the two are drawn near each other here: it is a region a few hundred thousand km across, and both are in it.

Along the way

  • First full-colour pictures of the dark universe survey

Everything the map shows is worked out in your browser from published orbital data - nothing on it is a stored picture of where things were.
